Migrating Landscapes

Migrating Landscapes

Regional Winner, Manitoba for the Canadian Submission for the Venice Biennale

This Canadian submission to the 2012 Venice Biennale was an open call for submissions across Canada to imagine what forms of settlement might arise in a conceptual landscape based on our personal experiences of settlement and unsettlement.

Artist Dominique Rey and I submitted an entry that described a mutable landscape that was able to be formed in response to the cultural and societal events of this conceptual community. Using wax, fabric, and metal wire, a variety of structures were constructed seeking to establish analogies to the frozen ground of Manitoba and the resilient support of the hearty culture that survives such a harsh environment.
